Client work, this is an example of her inspiration

During the design brief, the client discussed with me the importance of animals to her, and their symbolism. She was particularly drawn to the swan, which represents eternal essence and balance.

The specific colors she liked were white and gold: white represents peace and gold represents higher levels of wisdom.

The name "Satori" is a translation of enlightenment.

These elements best describe the building blocks of the brand for this Canadian company.

Tools:

Pencil sketching, markers, Adobe Illustrator

Task:

Design the logo for a gem jewelry company that markets and sells online and brick and mortar.

Process:

Start with research of the gem jewelry market and client's desire to incorporate symbolism.

Confirm my learning with client.

Finalize project scope.

Confirm design direction.

Initiate pencil phase!

Phase 1: Low-Fi

Sketching allows me to take what I have understood from the design brief and research and bring it to an initial reality on paper. Then reviewing the sketches with my client allows them to let me know if their vision is being represented in my design direction. This allows me to identify specific elements that resonate with the client and revise the elements that aren't generating the excitement I look for. I then work towards creating a design that inspires us both.

Early in the Satori project, I focused on trying to incorporate the swan and the gem into the design . My goal was to grab the beautiful and elegant stance of the swan while telling the story of a gem company.

Inspiration

During the research phase, I drew inspiration from the following.

Jealous eye

The communication with the client was constant and consistent through ideation and revision phases. Once approved, I created and reviewed Hi-Fi images to give the client a fresh look at the designs.

Using inspiration from the jealous eye, I designed the stance of the swan.

Bringing the tassel into the design, I decided to incorporate the jealous eye in a different way. I also decided to decrease the number of gems in the design to 7 to represent the 7 chakras.

Late in the process, the client introduced a new element to the project. Working together, we decided how we wanted the "Enso" to be incorporated into the design.

Adding color

At this point, it was time to introduce color into the design.

After numerous corrections and alterations to the meet the client's expectations with a balance for good design, we were able to finalize a direction for color.
